Is there a vaccine for polio?

Yes, there is. Polio rose to epidemic proportions in both industrialized and developing countries in the mid-1900s, and a "Great Race" began to find a vaccine. In 1955, Jonas Salk succeeding in developing an inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) and in Albert Sabin followed shortly after when he developed an oral polio vaccine (OPV) in 1961.
